My Thoughts on our Debate

I feel that taking everyone's debate into account, the debate was very one sided. All of us had valid points as the long run on both sides, but I still feel like the people who stood for Anti-slavery had the upper hand, and it's not because there was more of us

Some people who were pro slavery seemed terrible at first, but they didn't stay that way. For example: Kingston bought all his wives who were black women at an auction house, and writing articles of pro slavery, but only did that so his wives and mixed race children were free. At least some of those people had changed their minds on the aspect of slavery over time.

Anti Slavery people such as Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln both experienced the act of slavery in some shape or form. Lincoln have witnessed slavery flourishing throughout his childhood, and Jefferson even had a child with a slave. With the causes people made on this side, Clearly people would listen to the Anti slavery and support the cause.

It as a good debate, but the victory for the side of Anti Slavery was more than assured due to the influence many different people had, and the fact that even the people of pro slavery changed their minds or had their own "special reason" of supporting it.

As I was watching the movie, I have thought of many different things and felt many different emotions. How black people were so easily judged and hastily treated really got to me, and just made me keep thinking.  If there was a war to be broken out today, it wouldn't matter whether the men drafted are white, colored, or in between. Those colored men in the movie were willing to fight, and lay down their lives for the good of their country, giving up their freedom to show the "white people what they can do. As long as any man is willing to serve, that should be the only thing that matters, right? Because of this movie, I question the aspect of racism as a whole. What is the point of it? Just because someone is colored, that means it's ok to treat them inhuman? I feel it is a stereotype that some people just blindly followed at the time, and like many other trends, it just caught on with people. A Gruesome Downfall...

    What happened during the Jim Crow Laws was unbelievably painful. It is honestly hard to imagine all these events that have unfolded have been furled by "white supremacy."Everything was so terrible for blacks that I feel it was literally impossible for blacks to live a life in the US.      A key reason this time period was so gruesome was the sheer bloodshed from blacks caused by whites. Red Summer was truly a painful time to behold. Black kids accidentally swam on a white beach and one of them was hit with a stone and died. This caused an uproar in the public with black kids getting arrested instead of the white man who threw the stone. This type of thing completely enrages me, because those segregation laws caused an innocent man who didn't do anything wrong to get arrested, while the white killer is free, feeling proud of himself for what he done and getting away with taking a life.     Everyone knows the r...

About Plessy v. Ferguson...

         Honestly, I felt great concern for how the Reconstruction era declined, and I feel the biggest reason for its decline was obviously the cause of the case of Plessy v. Ferguson     It is said that the people hold the power to change, and they did,  somewhat. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment played a big part in this, making blacks to be separate but equal. there were pros and cons from each argument, but it was on the side of Plessy that they had a shocking yet clear advantage.     Yes, these amendments provided blacks with equal rights and citizenship, and that there were separate railroad cars present, but to have separate facilities for everything is a bit tedious to me, let alone ridiculous. Plessy went in to a whites car, causing an uproar in the public and getting himself arrested. It shouldn't matter which car they should take.
