Thoughts on "Gone with the Wind"
I would like to reiterate on a point someone brought up previously about the movie. The focus on the movie is kind or confusing. On one hand, the movie focuses on what life was like around that time and how people interacted with each other, and most importantly, how blacks were portrayed. On the other hand, this seems like a classic 80's love story between a prissy woman who is dramatically in love with a man, who is also in love with someone else.
I personally feel that the movie could be better if they focused on one key point: how life was like in that time. There can be a good story line to go with it. It's not that the story it had was completely awful, it has its highs and lows and it did do a good job of how people were affected by the Yankees, the army trying to defend people, and the people being relieved of crushed by whether or not a man was killed, but I feel that parts of the love story with Scarlet hitting on men was a bit too dramatic, at least from my perspective. I would have preferred a less drama, bore direct type of story line approach.
Lastly, I would like to address the acting. It was pretty good in my opinion, but of course, there was one person who everyone had a problem with and affected the "split rating," the little slave girl I feel the actor may have went a bit overboard on playing the character. She is supposed to be slow and misunderstood, but the actor made her look somewhat mentally disabled and autistic, but otherwise, i think they portrayed blacks very well.
In summary, it does need improvement, but this movie was very inspirational and a good example of catching a glimpse of that it was like back then.
